PUERI CANTORES CATHEDRALE RUHENGERI
Pueri Cantores Cathedrale Ruhengeri (PCCR) is one of 13 choirs consisting Diocesan Federation of Pueri Cantores Ruhengeri. It has existed since the 1999 under the initiative of Bishop Kizito Bahujimihigo and Abbey Placide Duhirimana alongside with Jesuit brothers played a major role to initiate this group. It started with 150 young singers (62 boys and 90 grils) between 11 and 6 ages.
In October 5th, 2003, Pueri Cantores Cathedrale Ruhengeri, 50 young singers received dressed the clothes of Pueri Cantores in the Holy Mass sang by this Pueri Cantores. In this event, the governmental leaders led by governor and Catholic leaders led by the Bishop were invited. The choir has intensively travelled in the country and that is how many choirs also saw birth after being inspired by this choir. Within the country it created 6 Pueri Cantores choirs of Ruhengeri Diocese and in other dioceses of Rwanda. In addition, it has also participated in 4 National and Regional Congresses in order to live up and share the mission of Pueri Cantores community. The choir has been organization different concerts and festivals that attracted wide range of audiences, taking part in the different generous activities in the community, organizing cultural activities among their peers, among others. Nowadays, the choir is composed of 221 singers including 4 married, 4 workers and 2 Sisters in different congregations. Others are students (17 in Minor Seminary of Saint John Nkumba, 6 in University, 1 in postgraduate, 36 in secondary schools, and 146 primary schools, 2 in nursery schools). All the singers regularly celebrate Holy Mass on Sunday, Marriages and other ceremonies in different languages French, English, Kinyarwanda and Swahili. They also live around Ruhengeri Cathedral located in Northern Province, Musanze District. Its geographical area is volcanic where the volcanoes, Gorillas and other mountain animals attract the tourists. There is 92 km from Kigali. PCCR organize the following activities including animating Holy Masses and fulfill apostolic services, Training on other Pueri Cantores and Choirs about music (Vocal), Organizing Concerts and Festivals to spread peace, Participate in the National Congress of Pueri, Collaborating with other Pueri Cantores, choirs and other Catholic movements through visits and exchanges of ideas and information documents, Organizing the pilgrimage, Organizing Good deeds and organizing completions for improving singers’ capacity.
