Historical background:
Pueri Cantores Mushishiro is the one of 27 choirs consisting Diocesan Federation of Pueri Cantores Kabgayi. It has been founded in the 1992 under the initiative of Sisters of congregation of “Soeurs de la Visitation” who played a great role to equipped children with disciplinary education, spiritual guidance and principal start up kits especially clothes, clothes cabinet and songs book. They accommodated those young singers until 1994.
On 28th November 1993 at Mushishiro Parish, first group of 50 young singers sworn and received their first dressed clothes specific of Pueri Cantores in the Holy Mass sang by themselves. Nowadays, the choir count 98 active members.
In this time, this group of Pueri Cantores Mushishiro was led by Kantarama Angeline dead in 1994 and Dusabamahoro Mathias (as a teacher of songs) dead in 1997. In 1996 the responsibilities of leading Pueri Cantores have been taken by a new director of called Maniraguha Donatha until 2006.
At the same time, some of the singers’ parents initiated the idea of training young singers of Pueri Cantores Mushishiro on the liturgical materials and vestment so that they additionally act as the Altar servers during the Divine Liturgy whether they sang or not, until 2008. This specific task was entrusted to one member of the group called Twagirimana Marc.
Main activities:
From 1998, Pueri Cantores Mushishiro also initiated the service of dancing and singing in a traditional way. This has lightened what children can do better and serve more people in need.
The choir has intensively travelled in different parishes and inspired some of them in creation of Pueri Cantores choirs. It has also participated in all 4 congresses organized at national level in 1999, 2006, 2012 and 2017 in order to live up and share the mission of Pueri Cantores community and share experience between themselves. On December 28, 2008 the choir participated in ceremony of Jubilee of 50 years of Pueri Cantores in Rwanda held in St Joseph Kabgayi. Nowadays, the choir counts 98 active young singers; boys and girls.
Pueri Cantores Mushishiro organize different activities especially animating regularly Holy Masses and fulfilling apostolic services, organizing the pilgrimage, retreats, training of young singers and choirs’ members on music, participating in the national congress of Pueri Cantores, collaborating with other Pueri Cantores choirs and other Catholic movements through visits and exchanges of experience and information documents, organizing good deeds and charitable activities. Nowadays, Pueri Cantores Mushishiro is conducting the campaign on “the role of the parent in the education and learning of a child” (namely in Kinyarwanda “Uruhare rw’umubyeyi mu burezi n’uburere bw’umwana”) in a consortium with FRPC and Hope of Family organization. This campaign is being implemented in Mushishiro sector of Muhanga district in a cooperation with sector leaders.
